No wonder all diets fail


After eliminating nightshades, my neurotic addiction to foods has gone away (see my post about the Joey Tribbiani food syndrome).  It only comes back when I slip up or encounter another food that causes the same reaction (ie.  Carrageenan).  Now that I’ve eliminated the nightshades, it’s very obvious when something pops up that causes the same reaction.

I was thinking this morning that it’s no wonder that ALL DIETS FAIL for those with a nightshade problem.  You can attempt to eat healthy but, if you’re consuming nightshades, the addiction will drive you back to those foods again.  For example… I thought for sure I was eating healthy by having a tortilla with turkey lunch meat, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and low fat mayo.  Yeah, let us count the nightshades and other addicting ingredients:  tortillas (potato flour), lunch meat (carrageenan), tomatoes, mayo (paprika).  ugh! 

After eating like this, I would come to a point where I could no longer resist the bad foods.  I was plagued by never-ending thoughts about the foods I shouldn’t eat.  I could think of nothing else until I found some way to rationalize eating them:  “Just this once”, “I’ve had a bad day, so the heck with it”, “I’ve been good this week, why not?” – the list was endless.  Then, when I slipped, it was such a high to eat them that it was impossible to stop.  I would go back to them the next day and the next.  I would then move on to the other foods I shouldn’t eat.  It was a fast downward spiral to misery.  Aaaahh, but the temporary high – what a rush.

I think about those poor people on the shows like The Biggest Loser and such where they are pretty much beaten down to attempt to resist bad foods when their addiction will always drive them back again.  I can’t even imagine the emotional trauma when you know that the food addiction is bad, but your body is driving you at them and there isn’t anything you can do to stop that unless you eliminate the addicting foods completely.  And, these things are in just about everything. 

No supplements have helped me with this.  Only complete elimination of the foods has worked for me.  It might be different for you, but this is how it is for me.
